IRZ continues cooperation with Romania for EU project

Following the suspension of the bilateral cooperation between the IRZ and Romania, due to the fact that other financing options were available to this EU member state for measures to continue to develop the justice system, in 2015 the IRZ launched an EU-funded project with the title "New operational tools for EU law enforcement and judicial authorities to conduct financial investigations in transnational cases with asset recovery component".

The IRZ appointed Helmut Leuthäuser, Presiding Regional Court Judge, as an expert. He presented financial investigation methods in Germany and the options for asset recovery. German investigators from judicial and financial management authorities also took part in a series of seminars, which were held as part of this project.

The IRZ is partners with the Romanian Ministry of Justice and the Romanian Public Prosecutor's Office for this project. The main objective of the EU project is to produce a handbook on the subject outlined above, which will be distributed to practitioners in Romania and Germany at the end of the project. The project is due for completion in July 2016.
